Shard Closure
11/29/2005
Thanks to all our members who have participated with FA over our many years. Due to hosting issues, the shard is currently closed. While some interest has been shown about rekindling the shard, for now the doors are closed and our tradition and community taken to other games and shards. Good luck and Good Adventures to Everyone! -- Talon |
Server Site Move
11/01/2005
My apologies for the unexpected downtime. The site where the server is hosted was in the middle of a move and getting everything back up online is taking longer than expected. We hope the FA Shard will be back online no later than tomorrow. Thank you for your patience!

New Recruits
06/13/2005
Just wanted to take a moment to thank a few members who are really going out of their way to get some new players to the shard. Also, please continue to use the vote button and vote regularly. I've been processing the apps quickly to get the new people in. Last night's event had a good turnout, so it shows things are really picking up with the player's really kicking in with support. --Talon

Fallen Ashes version 4.1
05/27/2005
In an effort to help the players and staff rekindle the shard, I am working on some shard related issues. My current focus is on bugs and issues effecting gameplay. Please read and respond to the topic on the Mechs board. My first objective is to fix all the little nagging issues, then work on adding some new features to make the game a little bit more interesting.

Macro Programs
05/31/2004
This
is a friendly reminder - repetitive action macro programs used to advance
skills is prohibited. First offense is an arbitrary punishment which may
include warnings, reduction in stats and skills, or even jail time. Second
offense is character deletion. Third offense is account deletion.

Reinvitations
05/25/2004
Today I sent out some mass emails to the entire accepted player base. Unfortunately, some of the applicants emails are no longer valid. The intention here it to remind all our past and current players that FAv4 is online, and it is time to come back.
So I need you all to look at your email contacts, your ICQ lists and help me. Send people our links, get them back in game. We are ready to get rolling, but in order to do so, we need members attention. What better way to get it, than through friendly emails and ICQs inviting them to return.

FAv4 Migration Complete
05/19/2004
The Fallen Ashes v4 Shard has now been successfully migrated to our main server and is fully online. I have updated the login and character creation webpages to match our new setup. We will be admitting new players shortly, and will notify them via email/icq. ++Talon
Character Migrations
05/09/2004
We are just about finished. Now all we need is for you the players to get in there and check things out. We'll still be setting up things for the next month until things get really going. In the meantime, work with Ishtar and the staff to get imported over. Details are on the message boards. It begins Friday. ~~ Talon
FAv4 Beta Launches
04/13/2004
4/13/04: FAv4 Alpha is now converted to Run1.0 and open for Beta -- Fallen Ashes is now one step closer to transforming in to the latest RunUO emulator. Since there was significant delay, we'll be redoing the beta volunteer signup list. See the message board for details - Talon
FA UO Version Upgrade
01/29/2004
At this time, we have decided to upgrade the shard from the Sphere emulator to the RunUO emulator. While RunUO is compatible with all install versions of Ultima Online, we prefer to keep the players limited to two install versions. Also, since Age of Shadows is freely downloadable from the Stratics website, AoS will be our starting point, with Lord Blackthorne's Revenge being our bottom point.
The current Sphere installation of Fallen Ashes (FAv3) is compatible with all installs of Ultima Online. So in an effort to get prepared, we ask that all players upgrade to either AoS or LBR, and install the 2d Client. 3D client support is still unknown at this time, as we are uncertain if it will be fully compatible with our customization projects.
Also note that FAv4 will be a clean gameworld, however steps will be taken to allow players to migrate over. Things being considered are a gold translation of items owened, ranked by a rich scale category, player's skills and stats, housing, and of course quest/storyline objects.
Also note that FAv3, in it's current version on Sphere, will remain as is. This means no further updates will be considered for the current scripts base.
Time lines for this project are unclear, but should go fairly quickly, about 6 weeks, and FAv3 will run up until the day of migration.--Talon
Quests and Events

Staff In Service Period
12/14/2003
Shard has resumed Service, as of Sunday afternoon,
Dec 14th at 5:30pm
While the shard is back online and running normally,
the staff is still busy working on various projects. These projects will continue
throughout most of the holidays, taking up most of our online shard time, and include new scripts, bug repairs, new graphics,
quest development, etc.
During this interim, please use the shard as
much as you can and do what you can to run player driven quests. We will still
attempt to help in that area as much as possible.
Finally, if you notice important stuff missing
or problems that came up during the down time, hold off on asking for quick help and
get with fellow players to compile a list, as opposed to hitting us up for singular
problems. Thanks and see you all online.

Shard In Service Period
11/19/2003
Shard will resume Service on Sunday afternoon, Dec 14th.
The Fallen Ashes
UO Shard is currently offline for service. During this period we will be fixing
various bugs to develop our static scripts set. We will also be using this time
constructively for staff training so they can be more versatile when online. We'll also be using this time
to cleanup accounts and the shard as a whole.
It is our intention to limit this downtime as
much as possible. If we can squeeze
in the work, we may have some new files to download as well, with the insertion
of some new multis, but nothing major, as we don't want the player base to have
to redownload large files again.
When we come back up, we will be using a new
staffing structure that should help us attend to the issues a bit more timely,
as well as permit the player base to have more control of in game RP events.
We'll keep you posted on the message boards.

October Fest : OOC Event
10/08/2003
October Fest 2003
The October 11th Octoberfest went very well.
The main events were the invisible hay maze, lumberjack competition, costume
contest, horse race, and lottery.
Glad so many of you could make it, and we hope
to have more such events in the future.
VOTE!!!
08/08/2003

Fallen Ashes, as a Project, has now reached the 3 year anniversary
mark. I'd like to take this time to thank everyone who has contributed, both
staff and players alike, as well as reinforce everyone's sense of commitment
and belonging simply by stating that we plan to continue running this shard
for the foreseeable future. Xeveous continues to punch in new scripts here and
there, I work on getting new players in game and functioning, and our 5 strong
Questlord Staff make the game dynamic and enjoyable. So here is to three years
of RP and adventure, with a tip of the hat salute to more adventures to come.

Over 1,000 Applications!
08/02/2003
Today we pass 1000 applications received! More than half of them were denied due to poor RP story submission. I am beginning to think our new motto should be: "We reject better RP'ers than most shards have on staff" Or maybe: "We deny more players than most shards have ever seen!"
But probably we will continue with the motto: "Not the Biggest. Just the Best!"
Looking forward to the next 1000 applications.
Admin Xeveous
Applications Update!!
12/19/2002
If you do not have an email stating
that you were accepted, your membership application has been denied.
I'd like to stress the importance of filling out a good application.
Make sure you type your name, your age, your ICQ number correctly, as information
that doesn't match is flagged as potentially harmful and is quickly denied.
ALso note that the RP Submission is very important. No one gains admission without
it. If you fail to put it I typically send an email requesting one. To get caught
up due to our emailer issue, this time around I simply marked them all as denied
if one wasn't provided.
Feel free to submit a new application for membership if you
think you were denied. I will match up with the old application and potentially
deny it again if I don't feel comfortable with the applicants content. Specifically,
I am shielding this shard from potentially harmful players, so I take a full,
healthy application seriously.
Again, sorry for the confusion with the down emailer tool, and
hope to see you online.... Enjoy!
Existing Players and Vets - Note I have recently
added 12 new accounts, plus 40 accounts were never used due to lack of communication
mentioned above. So expect potentially 50 or so new players to join in shortly.
Please be patient with them and help them along - Thanks!!

New Players - Shard Accounts
10/29/2002
If you have been accepted to Fallen Ashes as
a player, the next step is to login to the site and get your shard account setup.
If I miss you and do not setup a FA-UO shard account for you within a couple
of days of your acceptance and successful web login, simply email me at
tomcox@nc.rr.com
Note that your shard and game accounts should match your webname.
The only times there are problems is if you choose a really long or odd webname
and it is incompatible with the game account setup (UO or NwN)
Here is how I go about processing accounts.
First I review the App. If I need more info I email the applicant. Once accepted,
I send an internal email letting them know they are accepted. I then wait for
the new member to login to the webpage again ( gives me an idea they are reading
the rules and getting acquainted). I then look at recent logins (from our handy
members list) and if I see new names on there, I login to the server and add
their shard account. Sometimes I miss a name here and there, so if I do, it
is the player's responibility to email me and let me know.

Dragon Fever Quest.
10/13/2002
The current shard quest is the Dragon Fever Quest, all players should try to keep up with it via the Message Board. This quest is being brought to you by Admin Xeveous. It is a very open ended quest and much of the details will be determined by the players. I read the logs every day to see what players are talking about the plague. I have about as much idea as you guys do how it will end. Still there is some order to my method. Here is how it is organized. There are 3 parts to the story that run from Thursday to Thursday. Part 1: "The search for the cause" started officially last Thursday and will end this Thursday 10/17/2002. The three parts are as follows:
- Part 1: Plage: The Search for the Cause.
- Part 2: Fellowship of the Guilds: The Search for the Cure.
- Part 3: Call to Arms: The Search for the Culprit.
Player speculation and improvision is encouraged. However nothing is considered part of the cannon (official fact) until it is reported on by Fenick Bostwick. Once he reports it on the RP board, it should be considered true and all subsquent RP should work along with it and not try to contradict it. Good Luck to all, ~X
Character Details
08/31/2002
You will notice that now when you click on a name in the character list, you get a detailed profile of the character. Therefore it is vital to remember now, that every player you see running through the FA-UO must have a character profile!!!!!(Except for non-RP related staff)
Why is this important? Because soon if you wish to make a complaint against a player you will be required to
- Read that characters bio
- Determine from that bio if the player was only acting in a RP manner consistant with their persona.
- If after evaluating their bio you feel that the player was in violation of the proper protocol of the FA Gaming Rule, there will be a place on the character detail page to lodge a complaint.
Also it is nice to read the stories that our player base puts out because we have some incredible writers among us.
Thanks,
X
Clothes Moving to your backpack !!??
08/19/2002
You will notice when you log in you are some of your clothing has bounced to your backpack. Since the cap function runs when you login, this is necessary to prevent you from losing skills if you are wearing a stat or skill boosting item.
The items of clothing that should bounce to your pack are anything on your ears, wrists, cape, shoes, neck, left hand, right hand, and rings.
Thanks,
X
Shard Restore
08/18/2002
****FA-UO SHARD REVERSION TO 8/16*****
Since our Go Live Date, we've been running on a map with the bottom 1/4 wiped.
I had to revert us, since that is way too much work, deco and player housing
to restore. If *ever* you see large areas of things missing, page a GM immediately,
as usually the needs a reversion to a previous save. This is the first time
this has happened, so don't expect it to be a common occurrence. Just want to
be safe, than sorry.
New FA Chat
08/18/2002
For registered users of the FA network:
We now have our own private chat room. Just log-in to the webpage and click the chat link under the community section. Please Only your member name or character name in the chat room.

Test Sever Open
08/06/2002
TO ALL GMS, QLs, & Players.
Please feel free to log into the permanent test server. We will be using this server as a development server. Players may feel free to visit it anytime. Gm's can feel free test things out with players, even give players extra powers if need be.
- Make sure you have downloaded the FAv3 rar
- change the login.cfg to read as follows:
LOGINSERVER=204.96.5.150,2594
- Login with your old FAv2 account.
- You may be in Green Acres a big empty field, if so a GM may need to teleport you out.
- Keep in mind this is a test server, everything here is temporary. Don't get attached to it, cause just like life you can't take it withyou.

UO Shard status
08/06/2002
Note how I specify now: "UO Shard status". Really
trying to ring home the notion that we are a gaming network here, even though
there has been little on the NwN or other games end.
We are pretty much ready to roll, just that the new tiered skills
system slowed us down a bit. This is a system intended to replace the restrictive
class system and be less of a burden on system resources. It is 99% complete.
Once I get the go from Xeveous and Phantom, I'll ask everyone to login and look
around and start getting back to normal. We'll need to tweak characters and
setup some player housing again, as well as import some old characters.
From there, we will start ironing out some of the remaining
bugs, get the players situated in their RP hubs, pick someone for a QL position,
get the Quest side of things ironed out, then prepare for my player recruitment
phase.
I am hoping we go live tonight. Just waiting for the call.
A Welcome
07/22/2002
Hail and Well met!
:: The Knight removes his gauntlet and
holds his hand up, palm outward ::
You have entered the lands of Fallen Ashes.
Lands of Danger and intrigue. This is our home. As you can see we are still
working on it a bit. Expect the terrain to change as we shape it to fit our
needs. In the meantime, stop by the stables and purchase a horse. Feel free
to ride around the lands and visit the Castle upon your leisure, for all here
that is created is for you to enjoy.
*Salutes*
